Just a quick comment on the sexual health component of this juvenilia. Fear of the urethral swab – for all the reasons you recounted here – is a major reason why man may put off seeking sexual health testing. It's important to note that any well-equipped pathology lab can now do all the same tests using first-catch urine, so there's no need for the swab. Just make sure you go to a sexual health clinic, rather than your family doctor who doesn't do all that many STI tests and isn't up with it.
Indeed it does! And I think you are right about a shit to vocational schools. I really loved my college years and I think they were very valuable–the depth and range of what I learned in a liberal arts program has really helped me tremendously in many ways. I even plan to go back to school to pursue a masters in public health or possibly creative writing in the future because I really enjoy school and broadening my knowledge. But I think it is simply true that college isn't for everyone. We're told that college is the best choice and a person's worth is far too often judged by if and where he/she went to college. College is expensive. For many people, it's a four year playground and you don't always come out with the maturity and experience you need to really contribute to the world. I think vocational schools are a great option because they give you marketable skills. It's as simple as that. There's a better guarantee for finding a long lasting job and you don't come out immediately crippled by debt.
Though I will say that it has been my experience in massage therapy school thus far that, as the only 4-year college graduate in my class, I'm much better prepared for the curriculum and am having a much easier time of it than some of the other students. We have to learn a lot of very detailed, in depth stuff about human anatomy and physiology and I received a more extensive background in those topics than anyone else because of my college curriculum (even though I was not a science major). So there is definitely something to be said for a college education. I do wish they would make it a more affordable option for everyone.
